Landslides and floods hit Nepal

Monsoon season has had a sting in its tail, with heavy rain in the first weekend of October causing floods and landslides that have claimed at least 47 lives.

Eastern Nepal has been particularly badly affected, with homes destroyed and crops damaged.

Most of the casualties have been as a result of landslides in the hills of Ilam district, which is also where all 35 homes in a riverside settlement were swept away by an overnight flash-flood.

Severe flooding in Jhapa district has displaced more than 25,000 people, with nearly 5,500 homes submerged in the district’s worst flooding since 2017.

Thanks to donations to the Nepal Monsoon Appeal, our partner Asal Chhimekee Nepal plans to help about 2,500 people with food supplies, temporary shelter, and hygiene essentials for women and girls.
