Nepali INF doctor receives honour from the Royal College of Physicians

We’re celebrating with Dr Amrita Shrestha, who recently visited the UK to receive an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians in Edinburgh.

Dr Amrita is the Head of Services for Palliative Care and Chronic Diseases at INF’s Green Pastures Hospital in Pokhara.

Dr Amrita’s honorary Fellowship is a significant honour that recognises her leadership in palliative care, particularly through the Sunita project. This project, funded by UK Aid through EMMS International and delivered by INF, is transforming Nepal’s healthcare for people with serious, complex, or life-limiting illnesses.

Green Pastures has long been known as a specialist centre for leprosy care, prosthetics, and spinal injury rehabilitation, with patients referred from across Nepal.

This year, Green Pastures became a 100-bed hospital, offering a broader range of general hospital services to people in western Nepal, including emergency and maternity care and an intensive care unit – alongside its specialisms. Thanks to INF’s Medical Charity Fund, cost is never a barrier for people accessing the healthcare they need at Green Pastures.

Dr Amrita’s husband, Dr Suraj Maharjan, joined her at the ceremony in Edinburgh. Dr Suraj also works at Green Pastures, where he is the Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and Lead of Leprosy and Physical Disability Services. They are an amazing family!

Thank you for supporting Green Pastures and our Medical Charity Fund, which allow brilliant doctors like Dr Amrita to even out health inequalities in Nepal, and hugely increase the quality of life for poorer people living with illness and disability.

Support healthcare for the most vulnerable
