Digging the foundations

Construction begins on Pokhara’s Community Service Centre

We are delighted that the construction of a longed-for Community Service Centre is underway Pokhara, Nepal.

This is a joint initiative between the Pokhara Christian Community – a collection of more than 60 churches - and their social action arm Asal Chhimekee Nepal (ACN).

The progress and the plan

Having secured the final stages planning permission work is already underway. So far, the foundations and basement level have been dug, and the steel rebar has been laid for the basement, lift shaft and pillars.

If all goes to plan, the building should be fully functional by 2028. What happens inside will resource the mission and ministry of churches and Christian communities across Nepal. This centre will play a significant role in discipling younger Christians and developing future church leaders, which should strengthen the church in Nepal for generations to come.

“For me, the Community Service Centre is not just a building. It is a blessing, a place of unity, and a hope for the future of the church in Nepal. Many youths are leaving the country, and the older generation is retiring — but through this centre, young believers can be trained and encouraged to stay, grow, and lead.”

— Pastor Laxmi Kumar Shrestha, Pokhara Bethel Church

The Community Service Centre will also be a base to share learning about ACN’s disaster relief work, and store the emergency supplies needed to respond quickly to floods, landslides and earthquakes. These relief efforts are often carried out in partnership with local churches.

Thank you for your support

We are so pleased that the plans got through the lengthy approvals process; it’s exciting to see the work begin at last. The building work is backed by international donors – including INF UK supporters – and the commitment of many people worshipping at churches in Nepal. Everybody involved is grateful to the UK supporters who share the vision and are giving or praying to see it completed.
